Shilpi Ratra, O.D.
My name is Shilpi Ratra, I do have an unusual name, it is of Asian Indian Descent and means "artist". Growing up I did oil painting as a hobby, current I still enjoy some acrylic painting occasionally.
I lived in California most of my life, growing up in Greater Los Angeles area (Northridge, CA). Yes, the Northridge earthquake of 1998 rocked my world! I grew up with my mother, father and younger sister. They currently reside in Fremont, CA. I have a very big extended family and we always enjoy outdoor activities such as ATV riding, whitewater rafting, house boating, hiking and camping.
I attended UC Davis for my undergraduate studies and lived in Davis, CA for 4 years. During my studies there I participated in an intercollegiate cultural dance team. I still dance today but only at family occasions. Soon after I graduated from college, I was accepted to Optometry school in the Big Apple, where I received my Doctorate. I was devastated to leave my family behind but found great adventures in the big city of New York. I was able to explore fashion, worldly cuisines, art galleries, Central Park, as well as the beautiful skyline of New York City. Although I very much enjoy the city life, I knew California was my home.
In my efforts to return back to the west coast, I did one year of residency in Tucson, AZ. The desert life was a much slower pace compared to NYC but was only temporary. I am very much excited to be closer to home. I love that I am in the center of California where the beach, Sierra Nevada and both San Francisco and Los Angeles city life are right in my backyard!
I am looking forward to meeting all of you!
